Ayurveda and Yoga weekend, 19-21 February 2010

In the depths of the snow, remember Spring is just around the corner! Detox, relax and immerse yourself in Ayurveda in beautiful countryside outside Bath. This weekend is designed to provide a ‘toolkit’ to help you live a more balanced life. Ayurveda recommends detoxing to eliminate any dosha imbalances that naturally build through the seasons. Classical Ayurvedic detoxification is called Panchakarma and is ideally undertaken once a year. However, given the time and expense of this, a simple home detox is more easily achieved.

Spring is an ideal time to do this, so we’ll begin the good work on this weekend allowing you to continue when you get home. Ayurvedic detox remedies such as Aloe Vera juice, and herbal formulations (Triphala and Trikatu) will be provided to aid a digestive cleanse and can be purchased to continue your home detox.

“I had a blissful weekend, it really DOES feel like the world was escaped for longer than two days and the good effects are definitely still with me (albeit a little more jaded now, trying to work in a noisy office that’s having building work done only a few feet away)… but peace and love remains! Thanks once again for an inspiring and beautifully soul cleansing weekend!”

  • Yoga: 3 Hatha yoga classes (90 minutes). Beginners to advanced catered for though some experience is necessary. Sessions will include pranayama, asanas as well as relaxation and some yoga philosophy. The morning classes will be energising and the evening classes more restorative.

  • Ayurveda: Introduction to Ayurvedic theory, bodycare and nutrition with a practical emphasis throughout. Learn which doshas you are predominant in, and Ayurvedic diet/lifestyle advice for a healthy Spring. You’ll make fresh chutneys, face scrubs and home remedies for Spring ailments.

  • Ayurvedic Consultations: A limited number of individual Ayurvedic Consultations are also available over the weekend for those who want to get a more in-depth understanding of any current health issues. An initial consultation is £45 and lasts 60-90 minutes. Any herbs prescribed will be sent to you afterwards, along with diet, lifestyle and treatment advice for general health or specific conditions. Follow up consultations are available by phone 4 weeks later.

  • Treatments available: Thai Yoga massage available with Teresa.  Prices are £45 for a 90 minute treatment. This type of massage works well with yoga practice.

  • Food: All food is organic, seasonal and locally sourced where possible. All meals are vegetarian with an emphasis on low wheat, dairy and refined sugar to allow the body to detox. The day begins with a detoxifying shot of Aloe vera or barley grass. The menus will incorporate Ayurvedic healing recipes such as ‘kitcharee’ and mung dhal soup.

Testimonials:

“The whole weekend has been amazing- I  didn’t realise how much relaxation and contemplation I would be able to achieve in a weekend. Fantastic setting with a lovely pool wonderful! I feel like I’ve been away for days and days.”

“Overall the weekend was excellent, and difficult to improve upon. The food, yoga, massage were all great, in gorgeous surroundings and I particularly enjoyed the good company, and swapping shared wisdom. Thank you!”

“I loved the yoga which was pitched at just the right level. It was also good to learn how yoga can be incorporated into daily life, and after the weekend my general understanding of yoga has deepened”.

“The location was absolutely beautiful and I enjoyed the walks very much, as well as the view and looking at the stars. The energising and relaxing yoga sessions were pure bliss. The fact that classes were small was also a real bonus. I found the silent mediation walk a very peaceful way to start the though, though would never have thought of it before”.
