I have been to Jiva Healing retreats at Littleton Mill twice and will go again if my diary and theirs conveniently coincide. The juice fasting detox week was a challenge, but the benefits were worth the body’s initial unpleasant reactions to no food. I went home ‘glowing’ – not mine but my partner’s assessment on re-entry to normal eating life. The week’s regime is tempered by a lovely rural environment and walks along the canal. There are also informal and informative talks about nutrition. The team know their onions about sustainability, ecology, and alternative energy, with the Mill’s turbine whirring away in the background as testament to their energy positive lifestyle.  What I personally valued best was Teresa’s yoga classes, relaxed but with enough challenge her classes in the large room with the trees and river as visual and aural stimuli. I also took advantage of fabulous massage and reflexology one-to-ones on offer as extras. My other week was a shorter healthy eating and nutrition weekend, which offered less pain and therefore less gain perhaps for me (although it was enough for my partner), but would be a good introduction and shows what a quality healthy retreat operation they are. I would doubt the value of any serious rivals. Go here.

I had no idea what to expect from a Juice Fast when I made my first booking to the Mill in the summer of 2009. It turned out to be the most amazing cleanse of body and mind and a catalyst for profound change in my life. Each Fast is supported by the most incredibly gentle staff who guide, support and inspire guests during their stay. My first Fast, the staff and the setting of Littleton Mill had such an impact I’ve been back every year since.

Littleton Mill is a beautifully tranquil get away and a home from home in peaceful surroundings. It has an enchanting feel to it, which instantly enables you to relax on your arrival. It may only be a few days away from life’s fast pace but you sense the feeling straightaway that it will be well worth it. The weekend was relaxing and informative. In a short space of time we were all at ease - chatting and sharing our experiences, it’s amazing how you can bond so quickly when your away from it all and have the time. Melissa is magical in the kitchen. The food is so fresh and natural that when you go home any unhealthy readymade foods couldn’t begin to match the tasty recipes you learn from these few days. We had calming and soothing yoga practices to help de-stress, which compliments the whole weekend and is great for mind and body. Your every need is catered for with in a warm and friendly manner and taking home a piece of what you have learnt and shared is a great bonus. I’ve been to quite a few retreats around the world and Littleton Mill  is without a doubt a special one and I shall look forward to returning before the end of  year.

Elegantly stylish in a way perhaps best described as rural-urban, Littleton Mill pulls off the impressive trick of combining top-notch luxury accommodation with a genuinely relaxing restorative atmosphere in which to unwind and re-synch yourself. The perfect retreat destination for high-achieving hippies who appreciate state-of-art plumbing as much as unblocked chakras. Rick and Mel have got the big things and the little details just right... gorgeous healthy food, instructors who go out of their way to help but are never intrusive, beautiful location, organic free-range electricity, space-age power showers... it's impossible not to recommend. It's easy to go wrong booking a retreat but you can be confident you won't with these guys.

My week at Littleton Mill was friendly, fun and focused. The programme was well-balanced between activity and relaxation the staff and teachers were welcoming, knowledgeable and sensitive. The Mill and surrounding area are beautiful and the nearby canal is perfect for long or short walks
